Trust building among warring sides a must: OIC Ambassador

KABUL: The Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to Afghanistan Huseyin Avni Botsali emphasized on trust building among warring parties in the country.
Addressing a press conference in Kabul, Botsali said the global Ulema Conference in Makkah last month had unanimously declared the ongoing war in Afghanistan as ‘unlawful’ and strongly supported Afghan-led peace talks to end the decades-long conflict.
He said OIC didn’t have any specific agenda, except peace and stability in Afghanistan, adding the organization was facilitating peace talks in war-hit country.
“Peace would not be achieved through violence and bloodshed. It is the time to resolve the problems and bridge the gaps,” he added.
Responding to a question raised by The Kabul Times Daily reporter on impact of the recent declaration of Islamic countries and OIC condemnation of attacks in Afghanistan, the ambassador said conflict were senseless in the country and those being killed on daily basis were only Afghans.
“The ongoing war is not stated in Holy Quran. We need to convince the warring parties and OIC sparing no effort to restore peace in Afghanistan,” he added.
He made it clear the OIC recently voiced its support for the Afghan peace process and that the organization would never impose or dictate its decisions on others.
“We don’t compete with other countries and organizations regarding the Afghan peace process, we just want to play our own part.”
He said the OIC fully supported all regional and international efforts for the Afghan peace process.
Bostali hailed the ceasefire during Eid-ul-Fitr and added that fighting and money could not resolve issues. He said the Eid-ul-Fitr ceasefire had positive outcome.
Concluding his remarks, the ambassador called education key to Afghanistan’s development.
