Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan’s statue erected in Egypt

KABUL/CAIRO: The statue of Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan, thinker and genius of the East was erected at the Maidan-e-Azadi; Freedom Avenue in Cairo, the capital city of Egypt, Bakhtar News Agency reported the other day.
The agency said a ceremony attended by the Afghan Ambassador, Fazl Rahman Fazel to Egypt, Muhebbullah Zakeri, Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Culture on Newspapers Affairs and other Afghan and Egypt cultural figures, was held in the area, where Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan’s statue was erected.
According to the source, quoting Muhbullah Zakeri, the representative of the Ministry of Information and Culture, the icon was made by a well-known Egyptian statue-maker, Dr. Shahana Abdul Rahim, who was admired by an azure cup from the government of Afghanistan.
“The icon of Allama Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan was erected in the freedom garden in Egypt by the request of the government of Afghanistan from the Cairo Governor, Engineer Atef Abdul Hamid,” said Fazl Rahman Fazel Afghanistan Ambassador to Egypt.
The statue was made with the use of up to $15,000, said the agency.
Born in 1838 in Asad Abad village of eastern Kunar province, Sayed Jalamuddin Afghan left for Kabul for primary education, then to Iran, Iraq and Egypt for higher education when he was 18 years old.
After his education, he visited India, Saudi Arabia, Jordon, Syria, Turkey, England, Iran, and Russia for research and returned home and resorted to reforms.
