Pakistan new govt. should help maintain peace in Afghanistan

If we see Pakistan’s policy and its background act in connection with ongoing war and situation in Afghanistan, we find that Islamabad has always followed duplicitous policy and has never been honest in its commitments to the government of Afghanistan. Moreover, Pakistan has always kept on interfering in internal affairs of Afghanistan and continued its undeclared war against the people of Afghanistan. At the same time, the country is harboring, training, and assisting violent extremist and terrorist groups in its soil.
But, now the situation has changed in Afghanistan, region and world as efforts are underway for maintaining peace and stability in Afghanistan. Armed opponent groups in the country have also shown interest for peace in Afghanistan, but the enemies of peace do not let them join peace process and open direct talks with Afghanistan government.
Situation in Pakistan is also changing after the country’s newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan took oath and inhis victory speech last month after winning the July 25 polls, the prime minister said he wants a good relations with all countries in the region in particular Afghanistan and India.
On the other hand, considerable and positive changes have been seen in the region after US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia declared last year by US President Donald Trump.
Last week, United States’ Secretary of State Mike Pompeo pressed Prime Minister Imran Khan in a phone call to take “decisive action” against “terrorists” operating in Pakistan, the State Department said Thursday.
Pompeo wished Khan success in the wake of his being sworn in as prime minister in Islamabad Saturday after a victory in national elections on July 25, said State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert.
“Secretary Pompeo expressed his willingness to work with the new government towards a productive bilateral relationship,” Nauert said in a statement.
He also “raised the importance of Pakistan taking decisive action against all terrorists operating in Pakistan and its vital role in promoting the Afghan peace process.”
During the conversation, Khan emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the US and Pakistan on the basis of mutual trust and mutual benefit, and underscored the importance of peace and stability in the region especially in Afghanistan.
During his election campaign, Imran Khan had repeatedly said he would try his best to help Afghanistan in maintaining peace and stability and assured that borders between the two countries would be kept open for the people of both countries.
We believe that Pakistan new government unlike previous governments had been following double policy in Afghanistan will honestly work with Afghanistan government for maintaining peace and stability in the country.
If the new government of Pakistan does so, the people of both countries will live in peaceful environment and the two countries will soon stand on their feet and reach economical sufficiency.
