Khost clerics welcome government’s peace efforts

 KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a meeting with the Khost religious scholars discussed some issues related to peace, government’s development programs as well as fighting corruption, said a statement from the Presidential Palace Tuesday.
Representing others, Mawlavi Shah Mohammad, head of the Provincial Ulema Council spoke about the government’s peace efforts, development programs and counter-corruption plans and welcomed and said they would encourage people to take part in the election this year as they did in the past.
He regarded the religious scholars’ role in peace process very effective and asked the president to prevent malicious activities from sabotaging the process.
The president thanked the religious scholars for their support to the election and the government peace offer and said: “I am ready for any devotion for an intra-Afghan peace dialogue except victimizing the country’s freedom and that an on-time election would be held under the country’s constitution.”
He asked the scholars to raise their voice for supporting the process and assured that basic reforms have been brought in the election commission and the powerful individuals wouldn’t be allowed to interfere in the process.
