President Ghani asks Ulema to raise awareness on voter registration process

President Ghani asks Ulema to raise awareness on voter registration process
 KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Thursday chaired a meeting that called on religious scholars, civil society, women’s networks and all to work for creating awareness among the people about registering themselves to vote in provincial capitals and districts.
The meeting at the Presidential Palace was organized to assess and discuss the ongoing voter’s registration process and was attended by second vice-president Sarwar Danish, Chief Executive (CE) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Independent Election Commission (IEC) chief, ministers, senior government officials, some ambassadors, representatives of donor countries and political parties.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said IEC chief Abdul Baday Sayyad presented information about progress in the voter’s registration process and challenges plaguing polling stations.
After comprehensive talks, the meeting finally decided that besides the government, Ulema, civil society and women’s networks should work together for spreading awareness about the voter’s registration in provincial capitals and districts.
