Mike Pence reiterates commitment to Afghanistan

Mike Pence reiterates commitment to Afghanistan
 KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani spoke with US Vice President Mike Pence through the phone on Friday, a presidential statement said.
Both sides discussed issues related to Afghanistan and the region, support of the Afghan forces, US strategy for South Asia, counterterrorism, security, peace and stability, upcoming elections and enhancing ties between the two countries, the statement added.
During the conversation, the US vice president reiterated the international commitment to partner with and support the Afghan government and security forces under President Trump’s South Asia strategy.
Pence also expressed the Administration’s condolences for the recent ISIS attacks against the Afghan people who were seeking to participate in their country’s electoral process.
US Vice President Pence highlighted the importance of holding democratic elections and political inclusion for the long-term stability and effectiveness of the Kabul government. Meanwhile President Ghani praised US assistance to Afghanistan and called the country as the main partner of Afghan people and government. Hinting to holding of parliamentary and district council elections, President Ghani said government was committed to hold the elections on due time. Concluding his words, US Vice President assured his country’s continued support of Afghanistan, adding US would remain beside Afghanistan till the country achieve lasting peace and stability.
