Technical works of TAPI project to be completed

The Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) authorities said that the technical works of TAPI project is due to be completed inside Afghanistan territory as 90 pc of technical, legal and surveying has been concluded.
Addressing the media, spokesman of the MoMP Abdul Qadir Mustafa although didn’t talk on precise time of beginning of practical work of the project but added that its construction would be started soon.
He added, air, geotechnical, environmental and social surveying are being implemented in five provinces according to roadmap. We are implementing the program technically, legally and economically and have good progress of 80-90 pc.
The TAPI project was officially opened on Feb 23 current year in Herat by Afghanistan, Turkmenistan presidents, vice president of India and PM of Pakistan. With a capacity of 33 billion cubic meter gas, to Pakistan and India via Afghanistan, as the latter earns US $ 400 million transit duty every year and would provide employment opportunities for 12000 people and 816 km out of about 2000 km long pipeline passes through Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand and Kandahar provinces.
Afghanistan and Turkmenistan foreign ministers discussed on Wednesday on ensuring security of regional projects in the fifth security and border meeting between Kabul and Ashqabat.
Prior to this, concerns existed on the project security but the Afghan MoI and MoMP called these concerns improper.
Talking on ensuring security along the TAPI project, MoI spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said, there are no security concerns along the TAPI project because cordon and search operations had already been conducted along that course by ANSF. Serious security measures have been undertaken for TAPI project as thousands troops have been employed for that purpose and security concerns have been removed.
Economist Saifuddin Saihoon believes that completion of the project is very important step in ensuring economic growth and security of Afghanistan.
Successful implementation of the project would change Afghanistan to connecting point of the regional countries. TAPI project is indeed a good opportunity for the Afghan government.
