MoIC’s message on International Day on Elimination of Violence Against Women

Qaus 4 coincides the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Under the law of prevention of harassment and violence against women and children, the Ministry of Information and Culture is duty-bound to the arrangement and issuance of topics relating to the prevention of harassment and violence against women and children, through the government-run and private audio-visual and printed media as well as social media, providing facilities for the ministries and government administrations, real and entities for broadcasting and publishing issues and topics on prevention of violence against women and children, through the government-run and private media, as well as prevention of programs popularizing violence against women and children.
Based on the law on prevention of violence against women and children, the Ministry of Information and Culture is also responsible to take preventive measures such as arrangement and broadcasting radio and TV programs about the factors of violence against women and its aftermaths and publishing the related articles in the dailies, newspapers and magazines, providing the ground for the ministries and government administrations and other real and entities, to release issues related to the prevention of violence against women and prevent publishing issues promoting violence against women and children, through mass media.
Also, considering the regulation on prevention of discrimination, the ministries’ internal committee is constituted of representatives from the human resources, Gender management and the internal audit office led by the Head of the Ministry’s Office.
The responsibility of the committee is to address the primary complaints of the related administrations and codification of the executive procedure for implementation of this regulation.
The Ministry of Information and Culture is also responsible to draw attention of the mass media outlets to manage the radio and TV programs to broadcast and publish the culture of prevention of violence against women in the related media, to take necessary plan to prevent recording of the programs for radios, TVs, newspapers, dailies who are resorting to the release of issues in the favor of violence against women, introducing the related in-charges who are releasing issues in the favor of violence against women with no legal license, establishment of a special committee with membership of representatives from Gender in-charge, director of human resources and head of the office, under the leadership of one of the deputy ministers of information and culture, to investigate issues relating to violence against women, regularly providing report from their works to the commission and doing other required duties and responsibilities.
The international day of the elimination of violence against women was approved by United Nations in 1999 and marked worldwide.
The day is marked, while women have gained more achievements in economic, cultural and political areas. But in Afghanistan, women and girls are still facing numerous challenges, which are needed to be discussed in details.
Creation of a supporting system, promotion of culture of reducing violence against women, description and explanation of women supporting laws in the center and provinces of the country, are among other issues needed to be addressed.
Addressing the aforesaid issues could provide opportunity for women to access economic and social capabilities and help them enter the campaign, the world has started for its elimination since long years.
The Ministry of Information and Culture has taken comprehensive part in the 16-day campaign of prevention of violence against women and during the period, would release topics and articles special for women by reflecting their activities and capabilities, through conducting various programs including women related show of films, theater, holding historical relics exhibitions, displaying women handicrafts etc. The Ministry of Information and Culture asks the entire audio-visual and printed media to consider the issues and focus on the programs relating to the prevention of violence against women.
