MoI, MCIT sign MoU on electronic traffic system

KABUL: Ministries of telecommunications and information technology and interior signed an agreement to make the country’s traffic system electronic, BNA reported yesterday.
During a joint news conference with the interior minister, the minister of telecommunications and information technology Shahzad Aryoubi said the program would be done by Asaan Khedmat ‘Easy Service’ entity, the agency added.
The new system would help the drivers to receive their driving licenses and permits like smart cards.
Connection of the country’s custom houses to traffic central system, traffic incidents’ achieved documents and driving licenses’ digitalization as well as to establish a center to offer public services are among the main objectives of the agreement.
Minister of interior Wais Ahmad Barmak called the step part is of his ministry’s four year reforms plan, adding using the technology would help create further transparency and pave the way to effectively fight corruption.
