Further military equipment playing effective role in lowering ANDSF casualties

In recent years, high death toll among Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) has raised concerns. Afghan military experts believe that further military equipment and sound combat leadership can play effective role in lowering the high death toll among ANDSF personnel.
Afghan experts on military affairs by expressing concern over the high death toll among the country’s defense and security personnel said the government and the country’s defense and security organs should take further steps towards reduction of the high death toll among soldiers.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has taken new decision to extend the basic military training period for members of the Afghan National Army (ANA) from ten weeks to 12 weeks in order to lower the high death toll among ANA soldiers in battle fields.
This comes two days after President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani told a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos that a staggering 45,000 security force members had been killed since he took office in September 2014.
“Over 45,000 Afghan security personnel have paid the ultimate sacrifice,” Ghani said last week.
He said: “The number of international casualties is less than 72.”
Meanwhile, senior military officials have said that currently Afghan military recruits now have access to more equipment.
Afghan military experts say in recent years death toll among the country’s defense and security personnel has increased unprecedentedly, adding new steps or mechanisms should be taken to prevent from further casualties or help lower the high death toll among soldiers in battle fields.
“Sound combat leadership, close coordination in battles and timely providing timely supply and military equipment can play effective role in lowering the high death toll among soldiers,” a military expert Atiqullah Amarkhil said.
Former deputy of interior and military expert Hadi Khalid says recruitment and training of the country’s defense and security forces should be standardized as ongoing system of training received by ANDSF is not productive for current wars.
He also suggested close coordination among the country’s defense and security organs in military operations as close coordination could be effective for both controlling wars and lowering the high death toll among soldiers. Afghan military experts are also suggesting that it is necessary that the country’s defense and security forces should be further outfitted with further military equipment to launch better and successful military operations in the country. Previously, Afghanistan National Security Council had ordered the country’s defense and security forces to intensify their military operations against armed insurgents across the country. The order had been made for prevention of the high death toll among soldiers and civilians. So far this year, fighting has continued amid a surge in Taliban attacks – despite the harsh winter. Both sides have however sustained heavy casualties.
