President Ghani, Uzbek FM discuss peace process, development projects

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met Uzbekistan Foreign Affairs Minister, Abdulaziz Kamilov, here on the sideline of Munich Security Conference, a statement from the presidential press office said yesterday.
According to the statement, both sides discussed Afghan-led peace process, implementation of the projects, extension of railway, energy and boosting of bilateral trade ties.
Conveying his president’s greetings to President Ghani, Uzbek FM said his country was supporting Afghan government’s policies led by President Ghani and Afghan-led and owned peace process, adding any steps toward easing peace process would be taken in line with Afghan government’s consultations, the statement said.
Calling Uzbekistan and Afghanistan as two strategic neighbors and friends in the region, President Ghani asked FM to convey his greetings to Uzbek President and the nation. Thanking Uzbekistan for hosting Tashkent conference, President Ghani said practical steps would be taken to further bolster the bilateral ties, the statement added.
Thanking the neighboring country’s willingness to host peace talks, the President said after peace agreement, development programs to be accelerated and called European countries, Uzbekistan’s role crucial in implementation of the projects, the statement concluded.
