President Ghani receives US Gen. Votel

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani received the United States Central Command Commander Gen. Joseph Votel at his office on Tuesday, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on peace process, equipping and enforcement of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) and joint fighting terrorism, according to the statement.
“My mission’s period has come to end and my successor would be a person who understands Afghanistan’s situation and would work with the government and ANDSF as a strategic partner,” Gen. Votel said.
Afterwards, appreciating US cooperation with Afghanistan in different fields and Gen. Votel services, the president said the ANDSF have become stronger and their professional and war capacities have improved.
He added war on terror will continue and 40 years crisis would fundamentally end and lasting peace would restore in Afghanistan.
