No decision on peace sans Afghan government’s presence

Formal discussions of fifth round of peace meeting between US delegation led by the country’s special peace envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad and members of the Taliban group has started in Doha, capital city of Qatar.
Kalilzad xhas tweeted that he met Mullah Baradar for the first time and considered meetings in Doha as good opportunity and key for peace.
Presence of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Qatar meeting is considered as key as he is a top and influenced leader of the Taliban group. Meanwhile, Kabul University lecturer Farooq Bashar believes that no decision in Qatar’s peace meeting can be executed without presence of Afghanistan government even if Taliban delegation is so authorized.
“Like Khalilzad, I am also optimistic for presence of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Qatar meeting and effort is being made for presence of representatives of Afghanistan government in the meeting. It is quite clear that any decision made at any peace meetings will have no execution side without presence of Afghanistan government,” Bashar added.
Previously, US special peace envoy for Afghanistan had said that opportunity would be provided for presence of Afghanistan government in the fifth round of meeting in Qatar. Representatives of Afghanistan government have attended no peace meetings held between US delegation and representatives of the Taliban group so far.
Problem of the Taliban group might be solved with US in current peace meeting held between US delegation and representatives of the Taliban group, but Afghanistan government, political parties and Afghan citizens’ problem with the Taliban group has not solved so far. The Afghan people’s problem with the Taliban group will be only solved at a time when Taliban denounces violence and enters the country’s political environment.
Starting of direct negotiation between the Taliban group and Afghanistan government is one of key goals of Khalilzad, but the Taliban group has not shown readiness and made no final decision to hold direct talks with Afghanistan government.
Afghanistan government has always said it is supporting any step taken for acceleration of maintaining peace in the country, but adding that all steps should be taken in close coordination with Afghanistan government. No organization and country can decide and execute peace deal with the Taliban group except Afghanistan government. For ending the ongoing war and maintaining peace and stability in the country, direct peace talks between Afghanistan government and the Taliban group are necessary.
It is worth mentioning that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has repeatedly insisted on dignified peace for Afghanistan and said that peace has a particular mechanism that should be led and owned by Afghans. In a new move, President Ghani in ceremony on Monday suggested that a Loya Jirga or grand assembly of tribal elders should be convened into session to plan a course for peace.
