No peace unless women voice heard, First Lady

KABUL: The country’s First Lady, Rula Ghani in a meeting held by the Center for the Protection of Afghan Women Journalists (CPAWJ) said she was not worry about women rights in peace talks as the current government was committed to support them, BNA reported.
Congratulating March 8, the International Women’s Day she said that one of the great achievements of the governments of Afghanistan was freedom of expression with the women role prominent in this field, said the agency.
She also asked journalists to reflect the truth adding: “Time has passed that women journalists voice are not heard and their willing was not responded.”
“Don’t worry about your rights in peace process, without doubt there would be no peace unless you have your own representatives,” said the country’s First Lady.
Pointing to the women journalists’ activities in the country’s provinces, Acting Minister of Information and Culture, Ms. Hasina Safi said a survey has been launched to assess the problems of women journalists at the center and provinces of the country.
“Up to 600 female journalists have been interviewed during the survey and they revealed the challenges they were facing with no interrelation from the government officials and the results are expected to be soon presented to the presidential office,” said the acting minister.
This was also a matter of pleasure that Hoot 27 was named as journalist national day in the country and Ms. Hasina Safi went on as saying that women should believe in peace process and she would represent them in the peace negotiation.
Meanwhile, Farida Nekzad, director of the Center for Protection of Afghan Women Journalists (CPAWJ) said her led organization was as a connecting bridge between the women journalists and the government organs and women could refer to the center for sharing their problems.
Three local journalists have been awarded icons provided by the center at the end of the meeting held at the Government Media and Information Center.
