MoIC congratulates World Press Freedom Day

KABUL: Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) has congratulated in a message 3rd May or the World Press Freedom Day to Afghanistan great media family and all journalists and media activists of the world who have spent their valuable time in media and reporting. “May 3rd is marked in Afghanistan at a time when our country witnesses increasing unprecedented and diverse media and widely experiences civil freedoms and open media activities. May 3rd is celebrated worldwide to honor works of media organizations and journalists and media activists. In 2019, the day is commemorated with the theme “Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in Times of Disinformation. In Afghanistan, the day is marked every year although 27th of Hoot has been recently announced as ‘National Journalist Day’ to honor and remember sacrifices and bravery of the country’s journalists and renew of the covenant for the support and guarantee of freedom of expression in the country. As celebration of World Press Freedom Day paves the way for convergence of journalists around the world, we hope celebration of the day provides an opportunity to the country’s media organizations to debate on challenges and problems of media work in the country,” the message said.
