President Ghani stresses commencement of Kabul River’s management project

KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani chaired a session on management of Kabul River here at the Presidential Palace yesterday, a statement said.
During the meeting, the ministries of water and energy, transport, urban development and land, Kabul municipality and Kabul provincial office presented their reports on management project of Kabul River to the president, the presidential press office added.
According to officials, hydrology and topography affairs of the river and surveying as well as designing of 16 bridges have been completed, adding assistance extended to those families affected by recent floods.
Thanking officials’ reports, the president said further coordination needed for management of Kabul River and asked the relevant organs to prepare their weekly reports of activities. Hinting to importance of Kabul River management, President Ghani asked the relevant organs to brief the people on rivers’ management via press conference after finalization of the projects’ planning.
The President also asked the officials to consider construction of dams on the river, adding budget should be allocated to each organ and the second phase of the project should be soon started. The president instructed Kabul governor to take charge of the overall affairs of the project for better management and coordination.
