“The people of Afghanistan are tired of the ongoing violence and war in the country; therefore, all are thirsty of living in a peaceful environment, but we welcome the process if led and owned by Afghanistan government,”

Following efforts in national and international level towards maintaining peace in Afghanistan, a number of Afghan political experts and politicians in a gathering in Kabul have said that very good opportunities have been provided for maintaining peace in the country.
According to the political experts and politicians, there is a very good opportunity which should be used for starting direct talks between Afghanistan government and representatives of the Taliban group as the people of Afghanistan are thirsty of peace and stability in their country.
They say all want a peace that can guarantee the honor and dignity of Afghan citizens and all sides to the conflict should have role in peace talks to reach lasting peace in the country.
Meanwhile, Afghan political experts believe that the only way to save Afghanistan from crisis is peace in which all demands of the people of Afghanistan would be observed and the government leads the process.
They say if the peace talks are hosted by the government of Afghanistan and political parties, undoubtedly the talks will conclude with a positive result as Afghans themselves know that they can overcome all challenges and problems with national unity.
As efforts are underway for resuming peace talks between US delegates led by Zalmay Khalilzad and representatives of the Taliban group, Afghanistan government says the only way for reaching peace in the country is ceasefire that can build confidence for starting direct talks between the government and the Taliban.
Meanwhile, a number of representatives of people in lower house of parliament while welcoming the current opportunity for peace in the country are stressing that there should be transparency in peace process in which all achievements of the people should be protected.
“The people of Afghanistan are tired of the ongoing violence and war in the country; therefore, all are thirsty of living in a peaceful environment, but we welcome the process if led and owned by Afghanistan government,” said Nahid Farid, a representative of Herat people in lower house of parliament.
Farid believes if Taliban accepts ceasefire, it will be good for opening doors of direct talks between the government and the Taliban.
Afghanistan government officials have now worked on a plan that could pave the way for peace in the country as President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has pointed to a 7-article peace plan which is aimed at strengthening capacities in the government and opening doors for reintegration of Taliban.
On the other hand, the country’s President has stressed that Taliban should make use of the current opportunity for starting direct talks with Afghanistan government, calling on the Taliban to say yes to the demand of the government which was ceasefire and starting direct talks with the government.
It is worth mentioning that both President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and US President Donald Trump have stressed on ending the ongoing war through political settlement and insisted on ceasefire that could open door for direct talks between Afghanistan government and Taliban.
