Reduction in violence offers hope to war-suffered Afghan nation

War and violence caused huge negative impacts on society and individuals throughout the history in a way that finding an approach for reintegration, economic growth and sustainable peace across the nations need more attention. Afghanistan is one of the countries that experienced forty years of fractional war and ethnic conflicts.
Peace has remained the most pleasant word in Afghanistan’s literary context. So far many charming sentences were written, statements delivered, enhancement activities and seminars held, textbooks printed, many resources have been invested on peace building in the country. From 2002 till present peace has been discussed, pondered upon, taught and studied in many ways and many aspects and today peace is the greatest and highest goal.  Every Afghan, including the rich, the poor, men and women, wish to achieve personally and expects to be settled in the country soon.
Now, the reduction in violence offers hope to civilians who have constantly borne the brunt of the almost 19-year-old war – according to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), more than 10,000 people were killed or wounded in 2019 alone.
During a meeting with journalists the other day, the First Vice President-elect Amrullah Saleh said violence declined by 96 percent in the first 24 hours of the Reduction in Violence period as compared to the past corresponding period, adding that militants carried out 70 to 80 attacks daily before the start of reduction of violence week nation-wide.
According to him, the reduction in violence purpose was that attacks should come down up at least by 80 percent and that Afghan and foreign security forces in Afghanistan monitored the period and issues related to that were being shared with the Taliban Political Office in Qatar.
Afghans, who are tired of the continued bloodshed and war in their country, have turned into streets and social media and welcomed the start of reduction in violence period. Afghan people praying that reduction in violence period lead to lasting peace and stability in the country.
Indeed, Peace will come to fruition in Afghanistan if the effective stakeholders are committed to their human responsibilities. It is an undeniable fact that there will be no peace unless the lofty ambition for peace and its fruit are pursued persistently. Therefore, the real perspectives on effective factors and elements of peace need to be evaluated to gain an outlook for peace.
The Taliban that are counted the main factor for war and peace across the country, are the deciding one in making peace. In addition to be destructive power, the Taliban and their ilk own considerable social, religious and ethnic bases in the country have created the core of war and peace in Afghanistan.
Hence, reading and evaluating peace in the minds and deeds of such groups will be the basic needs for creating peace in the country. Afghans do hope that US-Taliban talks produce positive results and help bring peace to the war-suffered nation.
Meanwhile it is the time that the warring sides utilize the opportunity of the reduction of violence for durable peace and stability in the country, so that to help develop Afghanistan. It is also the time for addressing regional agreement to combat terrorism with strong force. The open door for talks should be the last option for the Taliban and no other opportunities should be given to them if continued their militancy campaign against the Afghan nation.
