President Ghani chairs emergency meeting, orders urgent steps for Coronavirus prevention

KABUL: Chairing an emergency meeting on Tuesday evening, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani ordered necessary measures for prevention of coronavirus in the country, a statement said.
At the meeting, Hamdullah Mohib, the National Security Adviser, spoke and emphasized public awareness, saying that a working group had been set up to get accurate statistics of the virus. He also emphasized the necessary measures by the Ministry of Public Health and other relevant organs, the statement from the presidential press office said yesterday.
Subsequently, Dr. Firouzuddin Firouz, Minister of Public Health briefed the session on threats of the Coronavirus, where acting minister of foreign affairs, Haroon Chakhansuri, deputy minister of refugees and repatriates Dr. Alema and Dr. Abdul Karim Malikyar acting minister of Commerce also spoke related to movements in the country’s borders and trade with Iran.
The Minister of Public Health said that have taken the necessary preparations in five key areas of incident monitoring and identification, coordination and mobilization, incident management, health promotion, risk management and needs assessments, according to the statement.
The meeting noted that the governors should be directed to launch comprehensive public awareness campaigns to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
After listening to officials remarks, President Ghani directed the relevant agencies to coordinate at the regional level and with international organizations to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. The President also directed the Ministry of Finance to provide the Ministry of Public Health with $ 15 million to prevent the spread of the virus, as well as reserve another $ 10 million for the ministry.
Emphasizing on national mobilization for prevention of the virus in the country, the president said facilities should be provided in all land ports and airports, vulnerable areas should be identified, and special attention should be paid to food and fuel supplies, among other measures.
The President emphasized awareness of the threats of the Coronavirus, saying awareness should be given to public sites, universities and schools, instructing the presidential spokesman Sediq Sediqqi to prepare an awareness plan in this regard.
