Afghan Govt. to release some prisoners to prevent virus spread

KABUL: The Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on Sunday announced releasing a number of prisoners in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, a presidential press office statement said yesterday.
According to the statement, the first and second vice presidents, chief justice, chief of supreme court and Attorney General Office (AGO) head held a follow up meeting of the Cabinet’s Saturday meeting to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The statement said the meeting was also attended by General Director of Prisons Affairs and discussed how the release of those detainees to be taken place.
The judicial organs asked to create a plan within the 48 hours and later it would be implemented based on the ministry of public health to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
First coronavirus death toll in Afghanistan was confirmed in Balkh province on Sunday evening.
