KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani chaired the cabinet meeting on Monday evening where the provincial governors were also participated through video conference, a statement from the presidential palace said.
At the beginning, President Ghani welcomed acting foreign minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, acting minister of finance Abdul Hadi Arghanidwal and presidential chief of staff Mohammad Shakir Kargar to the Cabinet meeting.
Representing the cabinet members, President Ghani extended condolences over death of doctor Hanifullah in Kabul, instructing officials to consider special privileges for doctors busy with treatment of the affected persons. The president during the meeting also asked governors to establish coherence for fighting COVID-19 in the country, saying that the videoconference with governor would be continued in future.
Meanwhile, the cabinet meeting expressed concern over lack of attention by Kabul residents to restrictions imposed by authorities to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh presented the strategy of the Awareness Committee on coronavirus on how to check the spread of coronavirus from Afghans returning from Iran.
The Cabinet tasked Acting Foreign Minister to share Afghanistan’s concern regarding the repatriation of Afghans and other issues related to coronavirus, according to the statement.
The prisons affairs head presented his strategy on the country’s prisons and shrinking the number of prisoners to halt the spread of coronavirus in prisons.
The cabinet approved 70,64 million Afghanis to be drawn from the Interior Ministry’s housing project to the prisoners’ relief project against coronavirus.
At the end, the cabinet meeting also instructed the government organs to ask their employees to avoid travelling to the neighboring provinces for holiday purposes, else would be punished.
